Women Who Whiskey – Boston Chapter

One of the scariest things to do, in my opinion, is to attend an event where no one knows your name. Walking into my first Women Who Whiskey event was terrifying. The room was full of women in conversation, they were laughing and having a good time. In a bit of a panic I began to text my boyfriend while rapidly drinking my welcome cocktail. He was very encouraging and before you knew it, I was in conversation with a total stranger who enjoyed whiskey as much as I did. That was the start of what turned out to be a pretty amazing night.

What is Women Who Whiskey? If you aren’t familiar with the club, it’s a club started in New York by Julia Ritz Toffoli. Toffoli’s idea was to create an environment where women can gather, network and talk about whiskey, as well as other strong spirits. Although they started small, Women Who Whiskey now has chapters not only around the country but also around the world.

Tapestry Restaurant by Fenway Park was the host for last Tuesday night’s event. There were around 30 women there.  Pernod Ricard brought some of their delicious spirits, which included Glenlivet, Aberlour and Chivas. Aside from spirits there was food and signature cocktails featuring the spirits we tasted that evening. To my surprise there wasn’t only whiskey there, but vodka, Oak by Absolut to be exact. Oak is dark vodka that is rested in oak barrels and is steeped in oak chips, giving it somewhat of a whiskey look and taste.

I have so much to say about each and every product there, but to avoid making this into a massive blog post I will be breaking it up in different posts to enable you to read the parts you like.

The night started with me not knowing anyone, but it end with me talking, laughing and joking around with these women. Many of them were amateur drinkers while others were in fact connoisseurs, no matter who they were; they appreciated the spirits, good conversation and getting to meet like minded women.

I started this blog because I am a woman who loves whiskey and wanted to connect with other women whiskey lovers or even educate those who weren’t familiar with the spirit. I don’t have other females in my life who love whiskey as much as I do. Yes, I can share a dram and talk whiskey with my boyfriend, but there aren’t females I can talk to about what is commonly known as a man’s drink.

Women Who Whiskey is an amazing club that is not only educating women about whiskey but is bringing together women to talk about our common passion. If you’re a female whiskey lover, think you may want to learn more about whiskey, maybe start drinking it, or you just simply want to meet other people; this is the club for you. You can check out there website at http://www.womenwhowhiskey.club/. Don’t be afraid to go if you don’t have anyone to go with you, who knows, maybe I will see you there.

Cheers!

Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
