When I saw the new dark chocolate from Goodnow Farms, crafted in collaboration with Boston Harbor Distillery, I didn’t hesitate—I grabbed a bar immediately. As a longtime fan of Demon Seed Whiskey, which we always keep stocked thanks to its versatility, I was curious to see how its bold character would translate into chocolate. I’ve written about Demon Seed before (you can find that post on Instagram or my blog), but today’s focus is all about the chocolate: does it truly capture the essence of the whiskey? Let’s dive in.

This limited-edition 77% cacao bar features Colombian Boyacá cacao, sweetened with maple sugar and infused with Demon Seed Whiskey. Each bar weighs in at 55g—just one serving. Now, let’s talk price: it’s a slim bar, and it’ll set you back $20. Steep? Definitely. But the real question is—does it deliver?

Let me start by saying—the ingredients in this chocolate are top-notch. And honestly, I’ve never tasted a smoother dark chocolate in my life. I’ve tried plenty that leaned bitter, but this one. Not at all! It’s silky, with a wave of sweetness that hits first, followed by a fiery kick that’s unmistakably Demon Seed. It’s bold, it’s balanced, and it’s delicious. Hands down, this is the best dark chocolate I’ve ever had.

Now for the downside—this is hands down the bougiest chocolate I’ve ever bought. At $20 a bar, it’s a splurge, especially in today’s economy. I do get that it’s a special collaboration. However, the kicker: I ordered online from Goodnow Farms, which is based in Sudbury, MA—not far from Boston where we live—and still paid $11.50 for shipping. I picked up the Demon Seed Bar and the Putnam Rye Bar (also a Boston Harbor Distillery collab), and with shipping, my total came to $51.50.

I genuinely love this chocolate—it’s fantastic. Supporting a local farm makes the experience even sweeter. That said, the price point is hard to ignore. While I’ll savor every bite of what I bought, it’s not something I’d repurchase. If you’ve got the budget and a taste for smooth, luxurious chocolate, this bar absolutely delivers.
