Old Fashioned – Tree House Brewery

I must admit, I had absolutely no expectations for this Tree House Brewery Old Fashioned. Allow me to elaborate. I came across this Old Fashioned when I ordered their Coquito. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of their Coquito. However, I want to be transparent and mention that I am a Puerto Rican who makes my own Coquito, so perhaps my standards are quite high when it comes to Coquito. In comparison to authentic Puerto Rican Coquito, their version falls short. Nevertheless, if you’ve never had a true Puerto Rican Coquito, their version is perfectly adequate.

For those not familiar with Coquito, it is a traditional Puerto Rican holiday drink made with coconut, rum, vanilla, spices, and some recipes do add egg yolks. It is often compared to eggnog.

But let’s get back on track, because we are here to talk about the Old Fashioned, which, I must say, is quite good. Tree House Brewery crafts this cocktail using their Old Growth Small Batch Bourbon along with bitters and sugar. We purchased a 200ml bottle for $18.50.

We poured the cocktail over ice and added a dehydrated slice of orange as a garnish. What I particularly appreciated about this Old Fashioned is that it’s not too overly sweet. You genuinely taste the whiskey, and the presence of bitters is evident without being overwhelming. The combination of the bourbon, bitters, and touch of sweetness is perfectly balanced. It is a very well-crafted cocktail, and I enjoyed it. This one is a win for me.

Cheers!
