Writers Tears Tequila Cask Finish Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Happy Day of the Dead! I recently stumbled upon this brand and instantly fell in love. When I came across this beautiful bottle, well, I couldn’t resist buying it. Fingers crossed that I enjoy this one as much Copper Pot Whiskey. To find out if I enjoyed it, keep reading.

As previously mentioned, a couple of posts ago, Writers’ Tears is an Irish Whiskey crafted by Walsh Whiskey, founded by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh in 1999. The whiskey pays tribute to the flourishing period of Irish Whiskey and Irish novelists during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The whiskey is presented in a captivating tin holder adorned with vibrant colors and a stunning sugar skull, symbolizing the celebration of Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos). The bottle itself is then beautifully decorated with the same vibrant sugar skull design. In this expression they have skillfully blended their single pot still Irish whiskies and further matured them in Añejo tequila barrels from their sister distillery Fabrica de Tequilas Fino.

Nose: pepper, vanilla, herbs and sweetness

Palate: pepper, chili and tobacco

Finish: vanilla, lightly sweet and spiced

Cost: $94 (What I paid)

ABV: 47%

At first sniff, you get tequila aromas. The pepper is very prominent followed by herbs and light sweetness. The palate is quite unique, like nothing I’ve had before. Very tequila forward at the start but the finish, that’s entirely whiskey. There’s loads of pepper and chilies but then you are surprised with a tobacco note that leans slightly sweet and vanillic. The finish is spiced and light sweet.

This is, pretty darn good! I can honestly say I’ve not had anything like it. It’s the best of tequila and whiskey harmoniously brought together. This will not be for everyone but if you like different and good quality whiskey, this is it. I simply kept going back for more. In a world where many whiskies taste the same, this one simply stands out and I’m here for it.

Cheers!

Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
