Crown Royal Whisky Sour cocktail with Black Cherry

Back in my younger days my go to cocktail was a Whisky Sour, along with an Amaretto Sour. I’ve outgrown these cocktails but when I saw Crown Royal came out with a ready-made Whisky Sour, I had to get it.

This ready to serve cocktail is made with blended Canadian Whisky, lemon juice, black cherry, and other natural flavors. I purchased a 750ml bottle at $19.99.

If you are not a fan of cherry, you are not going to enjoy this. I sampled this neat to start, the cherry notes are strong, leaning towards syrupy and medicinal with hints of lemon. Think, cough lozenge.

Over ice, the ice slightly mutes the cherry notes but brings out more of the sourness. It does absolutely taste better over ice, but not enough for me to say it’s a love.

I had high expectations and sadly, my expectations were not met. This is not the Whisky Sour of my youth. Don’t get me wrong, there are people who will enjoy this, for me, it just went too medicinal.

Cheers!
