I was recently introduced to this brand at a tasting event and boy did it leave an impression.More on that later! Fercullen is distilled by The Powerscourt Distillery in Co.Wicklow. They began distilling in June 2018 and visionaries behind the juice are Master Distiller Paul Corbett and Head of Whiskey John Cashman.
Ok, I’m sure we can all do the math and know that this distillery hasn’t been around for 21 years but rather 5 years. The juice is a marriage of 21-Year-Old Single Malt whiskies matured in ex-bourbon, Oloroso Sherry, and Pedro Ximénez casks.
Nose: vanilla, fruit, and chocolate
Palate: dried fruit, vanilla, chocolate and nutty
Finish: lightly sweet, spices and candied fruit
Cost: $200-$250
ABV: 46%
Plain and simple, this whiskey is superb! I even tried their small batch, but this is the one that truly made a great impression. You get a little bit of everything in your sip. It’s fruity, nutty, spiced, and chocolaty all at once. There is sweetness perfectly balanced with the nuttiness and spices.
It’s beautifully made! Had we not set our eyes on another bottle that night, we would have purchased a bottle. It’s on my list for a future buy as it’s one of those whiskies I keep saying to myself, “man was it great.”
Cheers!
