Today we get a quick review on this Japanese whisky distilled at the Kaikyo Distillery. This distillery sits on the coast and the salty sea breezes help aid the aging process. This particular expression is vatting 100% malt whiskies aged in imported bourbon casks, imported Sherry casks and native Mizunara oak.
Nose: lemon, fruit and sweetness
Palate: fruit, malt and cereal
Finish: light honey and dried fruit
Cost: $60
ABV: 46%
This whisky is light, easy to drink and it tastes good however, it’s also a bit underwhelming and almost forgettable. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, it just means it’s not something I’m going to run and pay $60 for. It is perfect if you love drinking highballs or if you’re a huge Japanese whisky fan. If you’re not, this isn’t a whisky you are missing out on if you’ve not tried it, in my honest opinion.
Cheers!
