Dewar’s Cask Finish Collection Aged 8 Years: Japanese Smooth, French Cask Smooth, and Caribbean Smooth

OK, if you follow me, you already know I’m not a huge fan of Dewar’s. However, I’m still going to continue and try their brand to see if one day, I eventually like one of their expressions.

Here we have a three pack. Each bottle in this discovery set is 375 ml and I purchased this for $42. That’s a good price! If you are a Dewar’s fan or know someone who is, this would be a great holiday gift. Now, do I think the juice is good… let’s find out.

Japanese Smooth: Mazura Oak Cask Finish
Nose: honey sweetness
Palate: cinnamon, floral and honey
Finish: smooth and floral
ABV: 40%

Thoughts: A lot better than I thought it would be. It’s smooth and light with heavy floral notes. It’s very approachable and easy to drink. A dash of water brings out more of the cinnamon notes.

French Cask Smooth: Apple Brandy Cask Finish
Nose: Apple brandy and honey
Palate: creamy, apples and cinnamon
Finish: citrus and light sweetness
ABV: 40%

Thoughts: Very creamy and smooth. Slightly heavy on the cinnamon notes. A dash of water brings out more of an apple pie taste.

Caribbean Smooth: Rum Cask Finish
Nose: apples and caramel
Palate: sweet, brown sugar and rum
Finish: rum and fruit
ABV: 40%

Thoughts: The sweetest of the three. Leans heavy on the brown sugar and rum notes. A dash of water lightens the dram and lessens the sweetness. Water makes this one better.

The best of the three is hands down the Japanese Smooth. But would I buy a full bottle…. no, so I’m grateful for this discovery set as it made each bottle roughly $14 each. The second best, Caribbean Smooth if you add a splash of water.

This is a set for the Dewar’s lover or someone who wants to sample whisky. The whiskies themselves aren’t terrible but they aren’t great either.

Cheers!

Note: The contents on my blog are solely my opinion. To me every palate is different! Although I may or may not like a product, I always recommend for people to try it and make up their own minds.
