Proper No. Twelve is an Irish whiskey created by recently retired MMA fighter Conor McGregor. The name of the whiskey pays tribute to where McGregor comes from in Ireland, Dublin 12. I was able to sample this triple distilled blended whiskey during a St. Patrick’s Day tasting at Yankee Spirits in Attleboro, MA., so here is a short and sweet review on this whiskey.
Tasting Notes
Nose: wood, vanilla and caramel
Palate: notes of pear, vanilla, oak and honey
Finish: a bit harsh and rough around the edges
I really wanted to like this whiskey and I went in it with high hopes but was disappointed not only with how young it tastes but how rough it is. You get some light and sweet moments with this whiskey that are enjoyable. You are then snapped back into reality by the harshness of the finish, which to me was something so unexpected that I couldn’t finish the dram.
The best part of this whiskey is that for every case sold $5 will be donated to first responder organizations and charities up to $1million annually. It’s simply a great cause and I’d buy a bottle only for the cause itself, but sadly, not for the taste.
Cheers!
