Happy New Year! We are kicking 2016 off with a brand that doesn’t need an introduction, Glenlivet. To be honest, this is a brand I have truly come to appreciate and enjoy within recent years.
Within the Glenlivet range I have tasted the 12, 15, 16 Nadurra Cask Strength and the 21 year-old Archive. My least favorite is the 15 and the most favorite being the 21 year-old. This 18 year-old falls in between and although it doesn’t top my favorite, it is still a pretty excellent whisky.
Tasting Notes
Nose: oak, fruit and toffee
Palate: creamy with notes of honey, nutmeg and oranges
Finish: long and smooth
It’s a great dram of whisky. It has a silky texture with a light burn at the end. Honey and nutmeg were the notes I got the most while the notes of oranges were very subtle in the tongue. It is complex and balanced. I found it to be very drinkable and a whisky, whisky drinkers and non-whisky drinkers alike could enjoy.
A bottle averages around $80-$90, depending on where you buy. I would definitely recommend trying. It’s excellent and will not disappoint. If you are trying watch your wallet after the holidays, go for the 12 year-old, that whisky is affordable and will amaze you on the quality and taste. It’s a bottle I recently finished drinking and will be repurchasing.
Cheers!
